Open Source

Software with an Open Source licence has been regarded for some time as consolidated and mature in many ICT sectors in terms of reliable solutions equivalent to commercial ones. Open Source is in fact considered by many companies as a new business opportunity which permits cost cutting and allows the infrastructure to be independent of costly proprietary solutions with particular reference to:

  • reduction in the licence purchase and maintenance costs
  • greater control of application life cycles
  • reduction of vulnerability risks with improved source code security.

Sogei also favours the use of Open Source software for the "in house" creation of a number of applications initially launched in the R&D field. Sogei has in fact expanded its range of services to the institutional client entering the Open Source world through standard formats (SVG, XML, IDE) for the production of portals and software (Eclipse/IDE).

In particular, the Geopoi® (Geocoding points of interest) cartographic framework was entirely created by Sogei according to the SVG standard issued by the W3C for web vectorial graphics, a powerful cartographic interface for representation and navigation on the national territory.

Other projects have also been carried out based on the more important and well known Open Source products, available on the market. These include:
